Beginner Mistakes in Role Play

Okay, so yesterday I told you how I started role playing. Today, I guess I'll tell you a little more into my experiences.

I don't know what it was that made me do this, but for the first few role plays/characters that I did, I can't even remember how many times my characters thwacked their heads against something and passed out. Why did I do this? I don't even know. But I can imagine it would have been kind of frustrating to the other guild members.

Another stupid thing I did was try to incorporate something modern into a medieval role play. I was in the middle of reading a horse-racing series, so I created a horse breeder/trainer/jockey character and plunked her down in the middle of a medieval fantasy role play. -_-'

...You know what, I'm not even going to tell you my first attempt at role playing males. That was way too terrible to even mention.

Anyways, I'd like to think that I learned from my mistakes. Only once in the last several years have I made one of my characters lose consciousness, and it was for a totally legit reason. And nowadays, I make sure the character's pastimes fit into the genre.

I'd also like to think I've gotten better at getting into the minds of male characters. I'm still not so great at creating them myself, although that little nine-year-old boy was fun and cute and whatnot. But I do enjoy messing around with ready-made fictional characters that I've gotten to know well. I've role played them, and I've written some short stories from their perspective, and I think my readers enjoyed them.

Of course, there's always room for improvement. But I hope you enjoyed listening to me rant about my beginner mistakes and how I've hopefully overcome them. =)
